Not paid
What this usually means
- “Not paid” can mean your final paycheck is late, part of it is missing, or your employer is delaying payment.
- Sometimes it’s an error. Other times, companies delay because many employees don’t follow up.
- Final pay rules can still apply even if your exit was labeled a resignation.
What companies often do next
- Say “payroll is processing” without giving a date.
- Ask you to wait until the next pay cycle.
- Pay part of what you’re owed but leave out PTO, commissions, bonuses, or reimbursements.
- Go quiet and hope you move on.
What you should do first
- Write down your last day worked and last day you had system access.
- Review your last pay stub for hours, rate, PTO payout (if applicable), and deductions.
- Save proof: pay stubs, schedules, timesheets, HR or payroll messages, termination or resignation notices.
- Before you email HR: don’t send a long or emotional message yet. Save your facts first. Written facts protect you later.
